Roger Vinson Nelson, known as RV to close friends & family, was born on August 3, 1951 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026 at home in Guthrie, at the age of 74.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester A Nelson, & Ina Mae (Ray) Nelson, and his 2 sisters: Velma June Jackson & Erma Lou Ward.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Dianna of 56 years & just celebrated their anniversary on January 31, 2026. He is also survived by his sons; Roger Bryan and wife Chrystal, Bradley Vinson and wife Kelly Jo & Jeremey Wayne, 8 grandchildren; Tanner, Kayleigh, Katlynn, Karsten, Kameren, Tate, Savannah, & Kolton, and 9 great grandchildren, of the Oklahoma City area. He is also survived by his brother Kenneth Nelson and his wife Nancy of Pensacola, FL.
Roger had a passion for baseball as a child where he was the official pitcher to the older boys in the neighborhood. He played lots of slow pitch softball while attending Southwest Friendship Baptist Church. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School. Roger was a licensed plumber in OKC and operated Nelson Plumbing Company for several decades.
One of Roger’s favorite memories was playing golf with his brother and son’s in Scotland. He enjoyed playing with his brother He spent countless evenings coon & deer hunting and fishing with his boys. Lots of years and memories were spent at the family lake house at Lake Eufaula. His grandchildren have very clear memories of kicking cow patties, 6am Saturday morning biscuits & gravy dates at Braum’s, sleepovers, and checking deer feeders. Roger was the grandpa at all the games, dance recitals, proms, graduations, birthdays, he didn’t miss a thing. He leaves behind countless family, friends, and stories that will be retold and remembered for years to come with laughter and love.
A graveside funeral will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, March 4, 2026 at Wellston Cemetery under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
